Rethinking the role of an accountant.

rethinking the role of an accountant

An accountant is more than a dull person in a suit that enjoys calculators as a Christmas present (jokes… seriously don’t do that). Your accountant is the person which understands your business inside and out giving you the time to get out there and do what you do best.

Too many businesses see the role of their accountant as a two-dimensional relationship (they do your tax, you give them $$$).

Too many businesses fail to see the benefits of utilising this necessary relationship throughout the year and beyond their tax return.

At the first sign of an illness, you see a doctor or medical professional (because no one wants to be sick, right?). So why is it so hard to see your accountant as the doctor for your business health?

Changing the way you view your accountant can have a direct impact on the health of your bottom line. An accountant understands the early signs of a problem before it becomes a budget blowout. An accountant understands how essential healthy cashflow is to your business. An accountant understands your tax, super and employer responsibilities inside and out.

Even though engaging the services of an accountant on a more regular basis will bear an increased cost, the benefits of increased efficiency, increased compliance awareness, increased competitive awareness and increased collaboration far outweighs this con.

To reiterate, rethink the calculator as a present.
